Private transfer from Ilhéus to Itacaré

What the BA-001 drive is like

The BA-001 is the only direct link between Ilhéus and Itacaré, and one of the finest coastal roads in Bahia: forest on both sides, climbs over the ridge, and a few viewpoints worth pulling over for.

It is also a winding road, with stretches without a hard shoulder and very little lighting. At night and in the rain the drive takes longer, and the driver's attention matters more than speed. Someone who runs the route every week knows where the road tends to flood and where to slow down — that is the difference between a calm 1h20 and an uncomfortable hour and a half.

Serra Grande, a village in the Uruçuca district, sits on the way at about 45 km from Ilhéus. Many passengers stop there briefly, on the way out or back.

Private car, shared van or bus

All three exist and suit different budgets. The practical difference:

• Private car — leaves at your time, straight to your address, stopping whenever you want. It does not wait to fill up.
• Shared van — cheaper per person, but leaves on a fixed schedule, picks other passengers up along the way and usually drops you at a central point rather than your guesthouse.
• Public bus — the cheapest, with departures spread across the day and a connection from downtown Ilhéus, not from the airport.

For a group of three or four, the private car often lands close to the shared-van total — with the whole trip at your own pace.

Getting to the beaches of Itacaré

Itacaré is spread out: staying at Praia da Concha and staying at Itacarezinho are a good ten kilometres apart. The transfer takes you to the address, wherever it is.

• Town centre, Pituba and Praia da Concha — where most guesthouses are
• Resende, Tiririca and Ribeira — the beach trail, at the edge of the village
• Jeribucaçu, Engenhoca and Havaizinho — reached from the BA-001, before the village
• Itacarezinho — about 15 km from the centre, towards Ilhéus

Booking both legs at once

Whoever arrives in Itacaré leaves the same way, and departure day is usually the tightest of the trip — an afternoon flight, a morning check-out and a 90-minute road in between.

Booking the return alongside the arrival solves it: the pickup time is worked back from your check-in with margin for the road, and it does not depend on finding a car in Itacaré in high season.
