Intercity trips across Southern Bahia
The bus network in Southern Bahia works, but it makes you live on its schedule — and it almost never drops you at the door. A private trip covers the whole leg in one go, at a time that suits you.
Destinations and travel times from Ilhéus
Approximate references, from Jorge Amado airport or downtown Ilhéus:
- Itabuna — about 30 km on the BR-415, 40 to 50 minutes
- Uruçuca and Serra Grande — about 45 km, roughly 1 hour
- Itacaré — about 70 km on the BA-001, 1h20 to 1h30
- Una and Comandatuba Island — about 75 km, roughly 1h30
- Canavieiras — about 115 km, roughly 2 hours
- Camamu — about 115 km, roughly 2 hours to the pier for Barra Grande
- Porto Seguro — about 350 km, a full-day drive
Long runs such as Porto Seguro are planned with an early departure and agreed stops. The price accounts for the car's return leg, and that is stated plainly in the quote.
Barra Grande and the Maraú Peninsula
Barra Grande raises the most questions, because there are two routes and neither is simple.
- Via the crossing — the road leg to Camamu, about 115 km of asphalt, then a speedboat to Barra Grande, a 30 to 40 minute crossing. This is the route most people take.
- Overland — about 128 km on the BR-030 and access roads, with a long unpaved stretch and around 3h15 in good conditions. It depends heavily on recent rain.
The transfer covers the road leg. Which route makes more sense depends on the season, your luggage and the time of day — worth asking before you decide.
Why private instead of the bus
- Door to door — from address to address, no connections and no extra taxi at the end
- Your schedule — including the small hours and late afternoon, when services thin out
- Luggage in the car — no shared hold, no check-in
- One leg only — routes that need a bus connection become a direct trip
- Fixed price — traffic or a detour does not change what you pay
For one person on a short hop, the bus is still cheaper. For a couple, a family or a group with luggage, the gap closes fast.
Frequently asked questions
Do you travel beyond Southern Bahia?
Longer runs such as Porto Seguro are served by agreeing the schedule and price in advance. For destinations further out, just ask — the answer comes quickly.
Does the price include the car's empty return?
Yes, and that is stated openly in the quote. It is why long one-way runs cost more per kilometre than a round trip.
Can we go and come back on the same day?
For destinations up to about 2 hours away, yes, and it usually works out better than two separate trips. For Porto Seguro, an overnight stay is the norm.
How many people fit?
Up to 4 passengers with normal travel luggage. Larger groups are handled by arranging more than one run.
How do I get to Barra Grande from Ilhéus?
The usual route is the road leg to Camamu, about 115 km, then a 30 to 40 minute speedboat crossing to Barra Grande. Overland it is about 128 km, with a long unpaved stretch.
